I’ve Found That Atmosphere Matters

We are blessed to have an area in our home where we can keep all of our extra stuff…..books, computers, guitars, art supplies, board games…..and all that kind of stuff.

For a while we used that room as our school room/home office/art studio/music area and quite honestly…. it really became a junky mess.

Personally, I do not function well in clutter and chaos. The rest of my crew agreed… it was time to clean up and organize!

Here were some of our thoughts…..

  • This work room needed to be an atmosphere conducive to productivity!
  • We needed more storage areas.
  • We all needed our own work space.
  • We wanted comfortable places to land and pretty things on which to look.

It took a lot of work, but we did it! This room is now organized and frugally decorated (I’ll get to that in a second). It’s a place where we enjoy spending time, and our work gets done!

Here are a few photos of what we did!

School Room

I bought some cubical storage units and a few fabric boxes to house our school books, board games, craft supplies, and computer paper.

Reading Area

We created a little reading area with an extra love seat that we had and a storage table/coffee table that my husband built in high school. (See!…frugal decor!)

school desk

Each child has their own desk, marker board, and bulletin board in separate corners of the room.

Art area

I have a new desk and storage area for all of my paints, school books, canvases, sewing items, and all that jazz.

File Cabinet Chalkboard Paint

We spray painted our old file cabinet with chalkboard paint to spruce it up a bit and add some creative fun.

This was an EASY project that turned out great!

MORE frugal decorating!

These science posters were free online, and they make beautiful framed art for a school room! (See graphicsfairy.com for free printables)

Bible verse chalk board canvas

We also wanted a motivational Scripture in the room to help keep us going on those days when we just weren’t “feelin’ it”

I did this on a canvas. It’s simply black and white acrylic paint, and anyone could do it!

After it dried, I rubbed it down with some chalk to give it a more authentic chalk board look.

This room and it’s newly organized and comfortable atmosphere has really made a difference in our days.

Atmosphere matters! Being a homemaker is a great blessing. Making our home a place of comfort, beauty, function, and love is sometimes a challenge, but it’s always rewarding.

God has given you many talents. You are so good about sharing in return. I’m sure He will continue to bless you and your family. At my age, it makes me feel good to see someone like you with such a great outlook on life, and knowing where your talent comes from. I’ll continue to follow you and pray for you. Good luck in all you do. Blessings, Lynda Ramage, SC
