What Art Can Do For You: Part 2 (Permission To Be You)

Permission To Be You

I’m a quiet person. I enjoy all things soft, cozy, and predictable. Some might call that boring. Some might say, “You can’t be successful in this world unless you roar. You need to be bold and loud!”  I used to allow that sort of thinking to  make me try to be something I am not, but as I began learning more about marketing my artwork I’ve changed my mind. I’ve learned that creativity will give you permission to be you.

I’ve read countless articles written for creative people about how to market and sell their creations. Do you know what they all say the most important thing to do is??? BE YOURSELF…be yourself! Why is that? Because there is only one YOU in this world, and your unique personality, your God-given essence is what will make you different from everyone else. You being YOU will make you stand out in the crowd.

What I had to internalize is that I can be myself, even if that means being a little less loud, a little less bold, or a little more cautious. I need to be myself even when it seems counteractive because that’s what will make my art, writing, and interaction with others authentic. The same goes for you!

Being yourself is not always easy, but it is essential in the creative world.  This is just one way that art and creativity have helped me. Isn’t it amazing how a subject this deep can be learned through something as shallow as marketing? I find it so interesting.   This idea of being myself has not been easy for me, but the more I practice, the easier it gets.

You be you. Be the best you that you can be and allow all the God-given talents that you have to shine.

Sometimes courage is quiet.
