Creative Community Featured Artist: Terri Minton
Tell us a little about who you are and where you are from.
Hi, I’m Terri Minton, owner of Studio 43M. I live with my family in a small town in western Kentucky where I was born and raised. My husband and I have two daughters, Spenser and Riley both who are very artistic in their own right. I am an RN currently working from home during the pandemic. I’m also the coordinator for our local Artist Guild.
How long have you been painting?
I actually haven’t been painting long. I took a calligraphy class 4 years ago and started making cards. I thought I could surely learn to draw a flower or something to go on the cards so I started going to a nearby art studio for lessons. At that point I had no idea I could draw, paint or anything like that. I immediately fell in love drawing using colored pencils. From there I moved to painting about two years ago, first with acrylic then added watercolor. I love all three mediums and move back and forth between them.
What does art mean to you? How has it been helpful to you personally?
Art has opened up a whole new world for me that I never dreamed I would be a part of. I’ve always enjoyed art museums and exhibits but never dreamed I would ever be able to create anything myself. My art has given me confidence in a way I didn’t know I had. It has allowed me to challenge myself and grow in so many ways. Being able to share in people’s lives through my art is always special. Whether it is doing commissioned pieces of work like a drawing of their grandparent’s house or a young lady’s prom dress or mentoring a young artist getting started, it’s always a joy to be able to use these newfound talents.
What advice would you give someone who is thinking about beginning painting or hasn’t painted in a long time and wants to start again?
Never say you can’t do it or you are not artistic. You never know until you try! If you had told me four years ago when I took that calligraphy class that I would have my own studio and be selling drawings and paintings I would have laughed. If I can do it anyone can!
Do you have a shop or online place where we can find your work?
I post a lot of my work on Instagram. I’m found at @terri_minton.
I also have an Etsy shop, Studio 43M, that I will be updating over the next few weeks with paintings, etc as I get ready for the holidays.
Terri is just one of the many artists in my Creative Community sharing beauty with the world.
