“Creativity takes courage.” – Henry Matisse
Why does it feel so hard to put down that first stroke of paint?
Why do we fear creativity?
How do we get past that fear and begin making art bravely?
These are a few of the questions we will discuss in this Heart to Heart, and I also give you an assignment at the end.
I hope you find this encouraging and helpful.
P.S.
I’d love for you to share this with others.

Enjoyed your podcast! Yes, creativity takes courage. Years ago I did craft shows and there were always people that will like what I did and others who did not. It takes courage to listen to criticism and still want to create. I go through periods of being very creative and then it just stops. I believe it takes courage to create because everything you create is a part of you.
I always enjoy all your comments and insights. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you so much, Dolores! I agree. Everything you create is a part of you!

My problem is getting what I see in my mind onto the canvas! I thought I was the only one that had this problem. So glad that you said it’s normal. It definitely takes courage.
I do get inspired from looking at other’s art. Not copying but admiring colors and brush strokes.

Oh yes! My brain and hands still don’t work together a lot of the time. I’ve watched so many videos on Youtube where people are painting hyper-realistic oil paintings of flowers and wish I could do that, too. However, that’s not my gift. I know I can work hard and learn it or I can just be happy with what I can create that’s unique to me and my ability right now. You’re definitely not alone!

I really enjoyed your podcast & cute examples of being creative, like, ‘frog tire person’. 😀 Also, very much appreciated your honesty & heart to heart encouragement. I use to think I couldn’t paint because I didn’t know how, now I realize that I just needed to find the courage to start somewhere & it was okay if I messed up, the key was to keep trying, keep practicing, keep playing & just have fun! It’s was a little difficult at first to ‘retrain my brain’ being an over thinker & a tad bit of a perfectionist, but when I finally gave myself permission to let go & just have fun, WOW! It was amazing! It’s the very reason I still enjoy painting since I started learning the how to’s with you, two+ years ago. And with all the added stress of everything going on around us today, it’s painting that makes my heart happy & causes my mind to be free & calm again. Thank you doesn’t seem to be enough but I do thank you! Keep podcasting!

Hahaha! I’m not even sure where that “frog tire person” came from. I’m so happy you are part of our group and are painting with us! You always encourage me so much with your comments, Sheena. Thank YOU!

Hi Amanda, I am seventy years of age and just started to paint and draw. At the age of fifty I started doing children stories and sending them to publishers and yes turned down.
So recently I found the courage to try and paint. My problem is I love every medium. One day I practice with abstract palette acrylic and the next day its watercolors. Yes I have covered many pieces of artwork with gesso. There are some days I just cannot think of what to paint, and other days that is all I do practice. Some pieces I love others the technique is hard for me to go from thought to canvas. I love this podcast it has given me the courage to practice. Lets face it at seventy I feel time is short since I started to paint late. Yet life is all about learning until your last breathe. Thank you so much for this for today I will practice my drawings. How do you know which medium to go for this is my problem. Sad to say I want to do it all. LOL You have a wonderful day and again thank you. You sound wonderful, your voice is calming and pleasant to listen to, and yes gives us all courage to try every day to do what makes us shine inside as well as out. Paulette

Paulette, you don’t have to choose just one medium! You paint with whatever you want to paint with each time you practice. I enjoy acrylics because they are very versatile, but I also play with oils, watercolors, charcoal, and paper collage. We explore all kinds of things in my Creative Community painting classes, too.
I am so happy that you are painting and that my words encouraged you. That makes my day!
