From The Creative Community: Artist Jennifer Cupp

There are so many amazing artists in my Creative Community. In the following weeks I’ll be interviewing and featuring some of them here on the blog.

Today’s featured artist is Jennifer Cupp.

Here’s our interview, some of her beautiful work, and information about how you can find her work on the web. (Note question 2…she’s only been painting for a few weeks, y’all!!)

1. Tell us a little about who you are and where you are from.

My name is Jennifer Cupp and I’m from Illinois.  I’m married to my high school sweetheart and am mom to three teens and a sassy boxer.

2. How long have you been painting?

I’ve been painting for about eight weeks.  I was scrolling through Facebook when an ad popped up for a free palette knife painting tutorial by Amanda.  I stopped and watched and immediately painted that day just using wall paint I had on hand.  I can’t draw to save my life but I quickly discovered I can paint!  It had never occurred to me to even try until I saw that video.

3. What does art mean to you? How has it been helpful to you personally?

I have always been a crafty and artistic person and had a photography studio for 13 years.  We recently closed that and while I still paint furniture and make lots of things I missed creating something that came straight from my brain.  Finding this has given that artistic piece back to me and it has been so affirming to remind me who God created me to be no matter what my art “medium” is!  I can’t go a day without creating something and I’ve happily discovered how calming it is to paint and just lose yourself in it.

4. What advice would you give someone who is thinking about beginning painting or hasn’t painted in a long time and wants to start again?

Just stop what you’re doing and try.  I’ve had so many people say to me “I had no idea you could paint!”  And I just reply “neither did I”!

5. Do you have a shop or online place where we can find your work?
