How To Create A Mixed Media Fox: a free beginner’s lesson for all ages

posted in: Art | 0

Hi there!

I am so excited that you are here for this little bluebird art lesson!

I know you are going to have so much fun creating this little fox. This kind of art is called mixed media. That just means it’s created with more than paint It’s a mixture of different things like: paper, paint, and glue.

Let’s start with the supplies you will need…..

Supply List

I buy most of my supplies at Michael’s Craft Store. Michael’s always has some really great online coupons, too!  Just Google Michael’s coupon to look for the most recent deals. However, you don’t have to go to Michael’s or Hobby Lobby to find these things. Almost all of these supplies can be found at Walmart or around your house. For example: you can substitute newspaper  or construction paper for the scrapbook paper if you can’t find that locally.
I also have affiliate links in the supply list below where you may order these items via and have them delivered to your home.

Here’s what you need to gather:

  1. Canvas

I used an 8×10 wrapped canvas in this video, but a canvas board can be used also.

Order online: CANVAS

2. Mod Podge

I use the matte version of Mod Podge in this video.

Order online: Mod Podge

3. Acrylic Paint

I am not picky about paint. Any brand will do. I use some of everything. For this you need black, white, and a complimentary color. I used turquoise.

Order online: Assorted Paints

4. Assorted paint brushes

I use a small brush and my fingers in this video. Any small brush will work!

Order online: Assorted Brushes

5. Scrapbook papers or newspaper

This will be your main background and your body for your fox.

Order online: Scrapbook Paper 1, Scrapbook Paper 2

Let’s Begin!

This video is the heart of the art lesson. This is where we will work together, and I will show you, step by step, how to create this project. Take your time and have fun. You may want to pause the video in some places if I am working faster than you would like to work. When you finish this video, you will have a completed work of art that you created with your own hands!

Here’s another example of the little fox. In this one, I added some whiskers and more flowers.

Great Job

Yay!! You did it! I am so proud of you for completing this lesson and making your very own little fox! Do you know what this means?

You are an artist!! 🙂

I’d love to see what you did to make yours special! If you would like to take a photo of your little fox and email it to me, I’d love that! My email address is:

Please Consider:

I have put many, many hours of work and a big chunk of my heart into creating this eCourse for you.

I ask that you do not sell any work that you create using my tutorial IF it looks like my work. If you create something that looks nothing like mine feel free to sell it! However, if you make something that could be mistaken for my work, please keep it for your own personal use only.

I learned everything that I know about creating mixed media art from others who were willing to share online, but I have put my own spin on these things and created my own style. That should be your goal, also!  Make it your own 🙂

I hope that you will honor these requests, and appreciate my willingness to offer my creative process to you.

Thank you!
